Do I need to bring my own firearm?
Yes. You must bring your own handgun along with 2 or more empty magazines, 50 rounds of non-steel core ammunition for qualification, and optional holster.
Can I use a revolver or do I need a semi-automatic pistol?
For qualification purposes due to time constraints, you are required to bring a semi-automatic pistol. Revolvers will not be permitted for the shooting qualification portion of the course.
Do I need to bring eye and ear protection?
Yes. Eye and ear protection is required for the live-fire portion of the course.
Does my firearm need to be unloaded?
YES. All firearms must arrive unloaded and in a case or bag. No live ammunition in the classroom. Guns will be inspected prior to the start of class. Anyone arriving with a loaded firearm may be asked to leave for safety reasons.
Can I take the refresher class if my permit is expired?
No. You must hold a valid, non-expired Colorado CHP to enroll in the renewal/refresher course. If your permit has expired, you must take the full 8 hour course for new applicants.
What if I fail the written or shooting portion?
You must pass both the written competency exam and the live-fire shooting exercise to receive your certificate. Our instructor will offer limited opportunities for retest or remediation if needed.
